New market share for fixed-network operators in Spain after Vodafone deal to buy Ono

According to Reuters, shareholders of cable company Ono are close to reaching a deal with Britain's Vodafone on an offer to buy the Spanish group for about 7.2 billion euros ($10 billion) including debt.

This would change current telecom market share in Spain both for fixed and mobile telephony.

According to last CNMC report, on 3Q 2013 fixed-network subscribers per operator were:
  • Telefonica (8,253k subscribers, 53.7% market share)
  • Ono (1,793k subscribers, 11.7% market share)
  • Orange (1,695k subscribers, 11.0% market share)
  • Jazztel (1,558k subscribers, 10.1% market share)
  • Vodafone (1,208k subscribers, 7.9% market share)
  • Euskaltel (332k subscribers, 2.2% market share)
  • R Cable (257k subscribers, 1.7% market share)
  • Telecable (119k subscribers, 0.8% market share)
  • Rest (140k subscribers, 0.9% market share)

After this deal, market share for fixed-telephony would be as follows:
  • Telefonica (8,253k subscribers, 53.7% market share)
  • Vodafone+Ono (3,000k subscribers, 19.5% market share)
  • Orange (1,695k subscribers, 11.0% market share)
  • Jazztel (1,558k subscribers, 10.1% market share)
  • Euskaltel (332k subscribers, 2.2% market share)
  • R Cable (257k subscribers, 1.7% market share)
  • Telecable (119k subscribers, 0.8% market share)
  • Rest (140k subscribers, 0.9% market share)

If we look at 3Q 2013 report for Internet connections over fixed network:
  • Telefonica (5,680k connections, 48.1% market share)
  • Orange (1,594k connections, 13.5% market share)
  • Ono (1,528k connections, 12.9% market share)
  • Jazztel (1,389k connections, 11.8% market share)
  • Vodafone (897k connections, 7.6% market share)
  • Euskaltel (259k connections, 2.2% market share)
  • R Cable (211k connections, 1.8% market share)
  • Telecable (121k connections, 1% market share)
  • Rest (138k connections, 1.2% market share)

After this deal, Vodafone+Ono will clearly be the second operator for Internet connections over fixed line:
  • Telefonica (5,680k connections, 48.1% market share)
  • Vodafone+Ono (2,425k connections, 20.5% market share)
  • Orange (1,594k connections, 13.5% market share)
  • Jazztel (1,389k connections, 11.8% market share)
  • Euskaltel (259k connections, 2.2% market share)
  • R Cable (211k connections, 1.8% market share)
  • Telecable (121k connections, 1% market share)
  • Rest (138k connections, 1.2% market share)

After this deal, we'll probably find Orange trying to buy Jazztel in order to recover its second position in Spanish fixed-network market...
